As winter weather starts to creep in, we want to make sure you know that our services are still available throughout the cold season. We wanted to share some of the frequently asked questions we get during this time of year to help you save some time and hassle if you need repairs done, so here’s a quick winter weather Q&A:
Q: My roof is leaking, but there’s snow covering the roof. Can you still do an inspection and estimate for me?
A: Depending on the situation we may be able to still give you an estimate. If the weather is not severe and we can safely access your roof, we are happy to take a look at the roof. Safety is our number one rule at Coates Bros. and we don’t want to put our crews in a dangerous situation.
Q: There’s ice on my roof and I want to clear it. Can I use salt?
A: NO! Don’t use rock salt OR sodium chloride on your shingles. The salt is actually too harsh on the material and can damage your shingles. If you have ice on your roof, give our expert roofers at Coates Bros. a call!
Q: Can you repair my roof in the winter?
A: Weather permitting, yes. Once the temperature reaches a certain low point, it is not only unsafe for our crews but it is also not good for the materials we are installing. However, if you have an emergency we will of course do whatever we can to hold you through till the weather clears up. We can also do a quick emergency patching job for the time being just to keep your roof in good shape until a full repair can be made.
Q: I want an estimate but I don’t want my roof repaired till spring. Can you schedule me now?
A: Yes! Actually, the earlier we’re able to schedule your repairs the better. We can come out and give you an estimate and get you in the books for next season, and you won’t owe us a dime till the work is done.
Q: Is there anything I can do to prevent problems with my roof this winter?
A: Absolutely! If you call us to give you a free estimate we can identify weak spots in your roof that may lead to future problems. We can then do our best to get your repairs done before the snow really starts to fall, but hurry! It won’t be long till our area is covered in snow.
