Browsing for any home improvement product is daunting. There are so many different styles and colors to choose from, and being a likely permanent decision, you want to get it right. The shingles you put on your roof are no exception! The most important aspect of a roof is obviously functionality. You want to make sure your home stays protect from rain and storms, but that doesn’t mean you have to compromise on the way it looks! Shingles come in many different shapes, colors and materials. So how do you choose? Our expert shingle installers have a few tips that might make the process easier, and they’re all about the research!
1. The easiest way to research shingle colors is to head to your computer or grab your phone and do a simple search for houses with different colored shingles. You can search for tan shingles, brown, black, gray, etc. and when you find a home you like, save the photo so you have it as a reference! Pay attention to other elements of the homes you’re looking at, such as the siding color. Black shingles will look different on a gray sided home than they will on a tan sided home, so just keep that in mind.
2. Another research method you can use is to visit a shingle contractor, like Owens Corning’s website and browse their shingle catalog. This will give you examples of actual colors in stock, many of which we install ourselves! If you have specific colors online that you want to see, give our expert shingle installers a call and we will most likely have a sample you can look at. We can even bring a sample to your home so you can compare it to your current shingles or your siding to get a perfect color match.
3. Finally, if you want to see what completed shingle installation looks like on a real home, take a drive around your neighborhood. If you see a home with shingles that catch your eye, take some notes and jot down the shingle color. Once again, be sure to pay attention to the home’s siding as well; it’s extra helpful if the siding is the same or a similar color to your own.
