If you have a few trees in your yard, you’ve probably noticed fallen twigs and branches around your home after a storm. Even if it’s a small tree, they’re still going to lose some debris now and then. It might not seem like it now, but if those trees experience damage from a storm or just due to old age, it could have serious consequences on your home. Here’s why trimming trees and shrubs near your home could save you money on repairs:
1. Damage to your roof.
Many roofs can handle a few sticks and leaves. However, an entire tree branch falling on your roof could cause severe damage. Even worse, an entire tree can take out a large portion of your home, not just the roof. A storm can take the branch off of the healthiest trees. However, if your trees are old or possibly already dying, they are even more dangerous to you and your property. Take a look at the trees in your yard and make sure their branches aren’t too close to your home. If you have a neighbor with a large tree that cuts into your property or vice versa, it might be a good idea to discuss your options with them! We always say Safety First, so we highly recommend finding a licensed tree service company to help you with this project. We’d be happy to make some recommendations for you!
2. Damage to your siding.
Just like the roof, large branches and trees can crash right through your home’s siding. While it doesn’t happen every time, it’s likely that if a tree falls on your home, you’ll need much more than just the siding material replaced. But damage doesn’t just come from a fallen branch. If you have smaller, ornamental trees and shrubs that touch the side of your home, those areas of your siding, gutters and roof can also become more vulnerable to damage. Foliage that sits against your house can be a breeding ground for mold and mildew. Plus, strong, growing branches can apply stressful pressure on your siding. It can also cause your gutters to become clogged easier if branches are sitting right over top of them! Trim these shrubs and trees so that they are not touching your home to help avoid these issues.
