Northeast Ohio is famous for its beautiful fall scenery. Our trees light up with vivid colors when the weather gets colder. As stunning as these changes can be, the fall season can also cause some problems for your roof. To keep your roof clear of fall debris, try these three tips from our expert roofing contractors:
1. Safety is always the first priority!
If you have branches and leaves on your roof that need clearing off, assess the situation before you climb up on your roof. Leaves can hold moisture on your roof making it extremely slippery. While we recommend not to access your roof on your own, if you do, take extra caution while walking on your roof and wear a good pair of slip-resistant shoes. Also, if you are climbing a ladder to access your roof, try to have another person there to secure it. If you don’t feel comfortable doing all this, give our roofing contractors a call – we’ll do it for you!
2. Protective clothing.
Cleaning your roof and gutters can be hazardous. Sharp, broken branches and other materials can be hiding amongst the debris. Wear a good pair of work gloves and a long sleeve shirt to protect your hands and arms. It would also be a good idea to throw on a pair of safety glasses to protect your eyes.
3. Use a hose.
Garden hoses can be a great tool for cleaning your roof, especially from the ground. If you have some debris that you want to spray off, do not use a pressure washer! Pressure washers are powerful enough to damage your shingles, making matters for you even worse. A simple garden hose with an attachment head will do the trick!
Keeping your roof clear of fallen debris can help maximize its stability.
